What are you going to do?

  • Installing and setting up small lab equipment.
  • Purchase of small equipment and equipment parts and maintaining contacts with suppliers.
  • Maintaining contact with the local facility and housing services.
  • Know-how of lab equipment and being responsible for troubleshooting.
  • Ensuring proper operation and regular maintenance of chemical equipment.
  • Coordination and supervision of responsibilities regarding instruction for equipment.
  • Onboarding of new coworkers regarding safety and lab protocols.
  • Maintaining lab safety.
  • Working in a team with the already present technician in analytical chemistry.

Who are you?

  • Higher Professional Education (HBO/HBO+) degree in chemistry/chemical engineering.
  • Proactive and independent mindset.
  • Excellent communication skills and service mentality.
  • Proficient in both Dutch and English.

What can you expect from us?

  • In accordance with the collective labor agreement for Dutch universities, we offer a salary of at least € 3.708 up to a maximum of € 5.057 (schaal 09) gross per month for a full-time employment contract.
  • 232 vacation hours per year, based on a 38-hour workweek (1.0 FTE). You can also work more or fewer hours in exchange for more or fewer free hours. For example, with a 40-hour workweek, you save 96 extra free hours, and with a 36-hour workweek, you lose 96 hours.
  • End-of-year bonus of 8.3% and 8% holiday allowance.
  • Extensive opportunities for personal and professional development.
  • Temporary placement (6 months) due to maternity leave as of April 1st until September 30, 2026.

The Stratingh Institute for Chemistry is a research Institute at the Faculty of Science and Engineering of the University of Groningen.

The mission of the Stratingh Institute of Chemistry is to perform excellent research and teaching in molecular research and teaching in molecular and supramolecular chemistry. Core activities in the chemical science such as bio-organic chemistry, organic chemistry, molecular inorganic chemistry and molecular materials chemistry are embedded in the Institute. The research programme is focused on synthesis, catalysis, functional materials, bio-organic chemistry/chemical biology and systems chemistry/complex molecular systems.

The Stratingh Institute for Chemistry is housed in two locations, this position is for the location Linnaeusborg (Nijenborgh 7). The laboratories housing the various research groups contain a variety of chemical laboratory equipment and experimental facilities in the field of organic synthesis, chemical biology, molecular materials and surfaces.
