What are you going to do?

The successful candidate will contribute to establishing and maintaining our stem cell culture platform, including routine culture, expansion and quality control of stem cell derived models, and supporting downstream experiments. In addition, you will perform primary cell isolation and manage associated mammalian cell culture workflows, including the processing and culture of freshly obtained samples where relevant. The work further includes carrying out key immunological and molecular assays such as ELISA, flow cytometry and western blot, alongside related cell and molecular biology techniques that support ongoing projects. You will contribute to experimental planning and accurate documentation, help maintain high standards in quality control and laboratory organisation, and support a safe and well-functioning lab environment in line with applicable regulations. You will also assist with training and day-to-day guidance of students or junior team members in routine laboratory procedures.

Who are you?

We are looking for an enthusiastic, precise, and flexible colleague to support multiple projects in our department. In particular, we are looking for a technician to strengthen our experimental platforms focused on advanced cell cultures (including organoid cultures), imaging, immunological and molecular assays and primary cell isolations. You will contribute to (animal) studies in respiratory and brain biology and chronic disease mechanisms in these organs, working closely with researchers and students in an interdisciplinary setting.

Requirements

The successful candidate will preferably have the following qualifications:

·        A Bachelor of Science degree (HLO) or Master Degree in (Medical) Biology or a related area.

·        Demonstrable hands-on experience with primary cell isolation and mammalian cell culture, imaging, and immunological techniques such as ELISA, flow cytometry, and western blot

·        Affinity with stem cell culture systems and their maintenance (experience is an advantage).

·        Having an article 12 qualification is an advantage

·        Team player with a proactive, accurate, and flexible attitude.

·        Enthusiasm for pharmaceutical research in an interdisciplinary setting.

·        Omics analysis, or willingness to improve in this area

·        Good knowledge of written and spoken English.

What can you expect from us?

  • In accordance with the collective labor agreement for Dutch universities, we offer a salary of at least € 3.057 up to a maximum of € 3.985 (schaal 07) gross per month for a full-time employment contract.
  • 232 vacation hours per year, based on a 38-hour workweek (1.0 FTE). You can also work more or fewer hours in exchange for more or fewer free hours. For example, with a 40-hour workweek, you save 96 extra free hours, and with a 36-hour workweek, you lose 96 hours.
  • End-of-year bonus of 8.3% and 8% holiday allowance.
  • Extensive opportunities for personal and professional development.
  • Temporary for 1 year, with prospect of a permanent position after a positive evaluation and subject to organisational conditions.
