The Department of Operations of the Faculty of Economics and Business at the University of Groningen is looking for a junior lecturer in Technology and Operations Management. The position focuses on developing high-quality, data-based educational materials and supporting student research in operations management.
A central part of the role is to prepare, structure, and analyse datasets for use in course assignments and MSc thesis projects. In doing so, the successful candidate will help translate real-world operational problems into teaching cases, assignments, and thesis opportunities for students. The substantive focus of the position lies in operations management problems related to areas such as event planning and the energy transition.
The position is embedded in the Department of Operations and forms part of Sectorplan Bèta en Techniek II (2022-2028), a national programme aimed at strengthening the foundations of academic teaching and research and at building capacity around major societal challenges. The Department of Operations works across focal areas including data analytics, programming, modelling, and the use of analytical tools for solving real-world operational problems.

What are you going to do?
You will contribute to teaching within the Department of Operations. Your work will focus in particular on the development of data-driven educational materials and on supporting students in applying data analysis and programming to operations management problems.
Your tasks will include:
- Preparing, cleaning, structuring, and documenting datasets for use in course assignments and MSc thesis projects.
- Helping develop data-based cases and assignments in Technology and Operations Management.
- Supporting teaching activities within the department, including tutorials, assignments, and supervision related to data analysis and programming.
- Helping translate practical operational problems into academically sound and educationally relevant case material.
Who are you?
We are looking for a candidate who:
- Holds an MSc degree in Technology and Operations Management, or in a closely related field.
- Has excellent skills in data analysis and programming in an operations management context.
- Has a strong affinity with operational decision problems, in particular in areas such as event planning and the energy transition.
- Is able to translate real-world operational problems into datasets, cases, and assignments for educational use.
- Has good communication skills and is able to work effectively with students and colleagues.
- Has an excellent command of English, both spoken and written.
What can you expect from us?
- In accordance with the collective labor agreement for Dutch universities, we offer a salary of at least € 3.546 up to a maximum of € 5.538 (schaal 10) gross per month for a full-time employment contract.
- 232 vacation hours per year, based on a 38-hour workweek (1.0 FTE). You can also work more or fewer hours in exchange for more or fewer free hours. For example, with a 40-hour workweek, you save 96 extra free hours, and with a 36-hour workweek, you lose 96 hours.
- End-of-year bonus of 8.3% and 8% holiday allowance.

- A 1.0 FTE position for a duration of 3 months.
