What are you going to do?

As a collection manager you will play a key role in facilitating scientific and practice-oriented research with impact. As a building block in a team that is still being formed, you will be closely involved in the further development of the DNPP’s collection and acquisition profile.

Specifically, your duties will consist of:

  • Collecting, managing and making available the physical and digital collections of the DNPP, within the framework of the collection and acquisition plan. You will be responsible for monitoring this plan and implementing it on a daily basis, together with the collection specialist(s), student assistants and interns.
  • Developing plans to improve access to the physical and digital collections. This includes, for example, further developing the (functional) management of the repository, the image bank and the web archive.
  • Co-writing project proposals for the acquisition of external funding in the field of (digital) heritage and collection management.
  • Writing accessible texts for the website, organising guided tours and exhibitions, together with colleagues.

In your position, you will maintain a network of researchers and other stakeholders and facilitate cooperation with political parties and heritage partners.

Who are you?

You understand how scientific research is conducted, have an appreciation for heritage, and possess a strong political affinity. You have what it takes to be a unifying force in a small and enthusiastic team. You enjoy getting your teeth into larger projects and are not afraid to learn new things, particularly in the field of digitisation and management systems. You know how to get your colleagues on board with innovation and improvement, while keeping a close eye on mutual cooperation and everyone’s qualities.

What do you bring to the table?

  • Higher professional education (HBO) or university education (WO) level of working and thinking, with a completed degree in a discipline relevant to the position.
  • You have demonstrable experience working with physical (archival) materials.
  • Digitisation plays a major role, both in the FAIR use of the collection and in scholarly practice, so ICT expertise is important; you want to master the latest standards in this field and are willing to increase your expertise through training (e.g. the Heritage Academy).
  • You can write clear, accessible pieces for academics, policymakers and practitioners, both in Dutch and in English (B2/C1 level).
  • You are collaborative, have experience with project-based work and coaching colleagues.
  • A good understanding of the scientific fields related to the DNPP (history, political science, public administration, constitutional law) is an advantage.

In addition, you recognise yourself in the following characteristics:

  • Strong analytical skills and innovative thinking.
  • Organisational skills; you work in a structured and systematic manner.
  • You have an enthusiastic, creative and flexible attitude.
  • Political affinity; you are passionate about democracy.

What can you expect from us?

  • In accordance with the collective labor agreement for Dutch universities, we offer a salary of at least € 3.546 up to a maximum of € 5.538 (schaal 10) gross per month for a full-time employment contract.
  • 232 vacation hours per year, based on a 38-hour workweek (1.0 FTE). You can also work more or fewer hours in exchange for more or fewer free hours. For example, with a 40-hour workweek, you save 96 extra free hours, and with a 36-hour workweek, you lose 96 hours.
  • End-of-year bonus of 8.3% and 8% holiday allowance.
  • Extensive opportunities for personal and professional development.
  • Initially, this involves a 0.8-1.0 FTE employment contract for a period of 12 months, which will end by force of law after this period (UFO profile: Scientific Information Specialist 2). This does not apply to employees who are already permanently employed by the University of Groningen; they retain their right of permanent employment.
