What are you going to do?
The candidate has an innovative, original and future-orientated researchline which is internationally recognized, and responds to interdisciplinary research questions with societal relevance. The candidate’s research is accessible and impactful for broader audiences (also beyond academia). Research excellence and leadership is also visible in externally funded research projects as well as in the successful completion of PhD supervision.
Who are you?
We expect the candidate to have a proven track record in high-quality teaching as well as in innovative teaching leadership. The candidate must have experience with teaching courses in Dutch as well as English in Modern History including Dutch Modern Cultural and Political History. In addition the candidate has a track record of leadership in teaching as is evidenced by the coordination of large courses, the setting up of novel initiatives in changing curricula, and in anticipating new challenges, such as the use of AI in teaching. We particularly ask a creative and pragmatic approach to change, an ability to get others on board with changing policies and a supportive and coaching attitude towards colleagues. Excellence in high-quality research is also required. At the level of administration, the candidate has a track record of administrative leadership as evidenced through the membership of administrative boards in service of the faculty.
What can you expect from us?
- In accordance with the collective labor agreement for Dutch universities, we offer a salary of at least € 6.764 up to a maximum of € 8.199 (salary scale 13) gross per month for a full-time employment contract.
- 232 vacation hours per year, based on a 38-hour workweek (1.0 FTE). You can also work more or fewer hours in exchange for more or fewer free hours. For example, with a 40-hour workweek, you save 96 extra free hours, and with a 36-hour workweek, you lose 96 hours.
- End-of-year bonus of 8.3% and 8% holiday allowance.

Where will you be working?

De Faculteit der Letteren is een grote dynamische faculteit in het hart van de stad Groningen. Ruim 5.500 studenten en 900 medewerkers werken er elke dag aan de grenzen van het weten. De faculteit heeft een gevarieerd onderwijsaanbod, dat bestaat uit 16 bacheloropleidingen en meer dan 40 masterprogramma’s.
