As postdoctural researcher you will contribute to the EU Life funded CHIP-EU project. CHIP-EU prioritizes capacity building in cities to help improve the governance structures, tools, and capacity to deliver such plans, while centering on a holistic, participatory approach aligned with spatial and energy planning. CHIP-EU targets both municipalities and stakeholders, using experiential learning and training activities supported by Energy Transition Living Labs. These labs enable knowledge exchange, strengthen institutional and social capacity, and mobilise Local Energy Coalitions to enhance ownership and feasibility between public, private and civil society partners. The framework will be tested in 5 municipalities Kalamata (Greece), Valladolid (Spain), Groningen (Netherlands), Athyenou (Cyprus) and Ternopil (Ukraine), as well as the Pomurje (Slovenia). The RUG hosted postdoctoral researcher will combine general task within the full consortium, with an active contribution to the Municipality of Groningen to help them improve and upscale their previous approaches to holistic and participatory energy planning the Vinkhuizen neighborhood to a city scale.
Your central tasks include:
- Analyzing existing H&C plans in cities on their reliance on an integrated and participatory planning approach, including a GAP Analysis on H&C Planning and Implementation.
- Support the development of a Guideline Book on H&C solutions that are best suited to different spatial planning concepts.
- Analyze local energy coalitions, energy communities and grassroots initiatives as major vehicles to achieve the local H&C transition, based on an international comparative study.
- Support the development of strategies and a toolkit to help develop structural forms of collaboration between various governmental and non-governmental actors, including (energy) companies, building owners, housing associations, grid companies and citizens.
- Conduct policy analysis, field research (i.e. a questionnaire and interviews survey), focus groups and help organize and stakeholder workshops.
- Contribute to project deliverables.
- Write academic journal to be published in open access peer reviewed journal.
You will work together especially with Dr. Rozanne Spijkerboer and Prof. dr. Christian Zuidema at the Faculty of Spatial Sciences, and will also work together with colleagues from other European cities and universities in the CHIP-EU consortium.
