Within the Department of Marketing (Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Groningen, The Netherlands), a position is vacant for a Lecturer in Sustainable Marketing and Consumer Behavior.

The Department of Marketing is seeking a colleague to strengthen its educational activities in the area of Sustainable Marketing and Consumer Behavior. This is a position focused on teaching and educational coordination. We are therefore looking for candidates who are committed to excellent teaching and who can make a substantive contribution to the design, organization, and delivery of

high-quality education.

What are you going to do?

The lecturer will teach in Bachelor’s and Master’s courses, focusing particularly, but not exclusively, on the field of Sustainable Marketing and Consumer Behavior. The lecturer will be involved in a variety of courses in various roles; these include (contributing to) the coordination of courses in the field of Sustainable Marketing and Consumer Behavior, supervising bachelor’s thesis projects, and contributing to other courses taught by the Department of Marketing at both Bachelor’s and Master’s level. The exact portfolio of tasks and roles depends on expertise and experience, with room for adjustments based on individual preferences.

The position also offers scope to contribute to the further development of our teaching, including the adoption of blended learning formats and the incorporation of relevant societal and technological developments into the curriculum. The position includes 10% development time that can be used by the lecturer to develop new teaching practices, participate in innovation projects, or take courses or training modules to acquire knowledge and skills relevant to the position.

Who are you?

To qualify, you:

  • Have a strong academic background (preferably a PhD) in Marketing or a related discipline, with expertise relevant to Sustainable Marketing and Consumer Behavior.
  • Have substantial teaching experience in higher education.
  • Are fluent in English, and preferably also in Dutch.
  • Have excellent communication, presentation, and teaching skills.
  • Function well in an international environment.
  • Have demonstrated organizational skills and the ability to contribute to the coordination and development of courses.
  • Have good interpersonal skills and the ability to work successfully both independently and in a team.
  • Preferably hold a University Teaching Qualification or are willing to obtain one.

What can you expect from us?

  • In accordance with the collective labor agreement for Dutch universities, we offer a salary of at least € 4.728 up to a maximum of € 6.433 (schaal 11) gross per month for a full-time employment contract.
  • 232 vacation hours per year, based on a 38-hour workweek (1.0 FTE). You can also work more or fewer hours in exchange for more or fewer free hours. For example, with a 40-hour workweek, you save 96 extra free hours, and with a 36-hour workweek, you lose 96 hours.
  • End-of-year bonus of 8.3% and 8% holiday allowance.
  • Extensive opportunities for personal and professional development.
  • The appointment is for a period of three years, with a review after the first year. A positive evaluation is required for continuation for the remaining two years. In principle, the position can be filled between 0.7 and 1.0 FTE.

The Department of Marketing is one of the leading marketing groups in Europe. The department is responsible for marketing courses for students in bachelor’s and master’s programs, in Marketing Management and Marketing Analytics & Data Science, at the Faculty of Economics and Business. Scientific research is concentrated in the research program Marketing, which is part of the FEBRI research school and consistently obtains very high ratings in research evaluations. Contract research, in turn, is conducted within the RUG Customer Insights Center and the Groningen Digital Business Center, both of which serve as bridges between science and practice.
