The Department of Marketing is one of the leading marketing groups in Europe. The department is responsible for courses in marketing for students in Bachelor and Master programs – in particular on Marketing Management, and Marketing Analytics & Data Science – at the Faculty of Economics and Business. Scientific research is concentrated in the research program Marketing (part of the FEBRI research school), which consistently obtains very high ratings in research evaluations. Contract research, in turn, is conducted within the RUG Customer Insights Center and the Groningen Digital Business Center, which both form a bridge between science and practice.

What are you going to do?
Within the Department of Marketing (Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Groningen, The Netherlands), a position is vacant for a junior lecturer. The new junior lecturer is expected to strengthen the educational component of the Department of Marketing. The junior lecturer is a position focused on teaching, with 90% of the time allocated to teaching tasks, and 10% reserved for research and development activities. Therefore, we seek candidates who are committed to excellence in teaching. Educational tasks can be fulfilled at the Bachelor as well as the Master level. You will supervise tutorial groups and Bachelor thesis projects, and assist in grading of Bachelor and Master courses. There are also opportunities to contribute to the development of our blended teaching and the embedding of societal themes in our curricula. The specific tasks will depend on your own expertise and experience. To help you settle in, you will have an allocation of 20% of your time for research and development in year 1.
Who are you?
To qualify, you…
• have an MSc degree in Marketing or a related discipline, or are about to obtain one
• have experience as a student assistant or comparable work experience
• are fluent in English, and preferably in Dutch
• have excellent communication, presentation, and teaching skills
• function well in an international environment
• have good interpersonal skills and the ability to successfully work both individually and in a team.
What can you expect from us?
- In accordance with the collective labor agreement for Dutch universities, we offer a salary of at least € 3.546 up to a maximum of € 5.538 (Schaal 10) gross per month for a full-time employment contract.
- 232 vacation hours per year, based on a 38-hour workweek (1.0 FTE). You can also work more or fewer hours in exchange for more or fewer free hours. For example, with a 40-hour workweek, you save 96 extra free hours, and with a 36-hour workweek, you lose 96 hours.
- End-of-year bonus of 8.3% and 8% holiday allowance.
- Extensive opportunities for personal and professional development.
- Contract duration: An appointment for a period of two years, with an assessment requiring a positive evaluation at the end of the first year of employment. In principle, the position is part-time, and we expect that the position is for 0.7 FTE.
