What are you going to do?

The main objective of this EngD project is to participate in the CO2RE project and process, evaluate, and generate relevant data on impurity reactions and corrosion in CO2 streams. These results will serve as input for defining acceptance criteria for CO2 quality specifications in CCS projects.

Who are you?

We are looking for candidates who meet the following requirements:

  •  Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering (or related).
  •  Excellent marks on the master diploma.
  •  Highly command of Dutch (min B2 level) and English language (verbally and written).

In addition to the selection criteria, the following personal competences/skills are important:

  • Highly motivated towards the project and EngD programme.
  • Creative, design, practical and analytical skills.
  • Team player.
  • Advanced technical knowledge.
  • Good understanding of oxidation and corrosion reactions and of physical behavior of gases (CO2 in particular).
  • Affinity for chemical interactions on metal surfaces.
  • Understanding of industrial chemical analysis methods and carbon capture and storage (CCS).
  • Ability to work in an international team, a research and engineering environment and collaborate with different levels of companies’ employees in a professional way.

You feel responsible for your EngD project and can work in sociable autonomy. Your proactive attitude enables you to identify bottlenecks and to approach them in a positive, problem-solving manner. You have strong communication skills and know how to get things done.

What can you expect from us?

  • In accordance with the collective labor agreement for Dutch universities, we offer a salary of at least € 3.029 up to a maximum of € 3.029 (toio) gross per month for a full-time employment contract.
  • 232 vacation hours per year, based on a 38-hour workweek (1.0 FTE). You can also work more or fewer hours in exchange for more or fewer free hours. For example, with a 40-hour workweek, you save 96 extra free hours, and with a 36-hour workweek, you lose 96 hours.
  • End-of-year bonus of 8.3% and 8% holiday allowance.
  • Extensive opportunities for personal and professional development.
  • The position is for a duration of two years.

The Engineering and Technology Institute Groningen (ENTEG-part of the FSE) of the University of Groningen is offering a fully funded 2-year position to master graduates leading to the award of an EngD (Engineering Doctorate) degree. The EngD programme includes specialized EngD and professionalization courses at the University of Groningen and a design project which will be performed at the N.V. Nederlandse Gasunie and the University of Groningen.

About Gasunie

Gasunie is a Dutch energy network company responsible for managing and maintaining large-scale transport and storage of natural gas in the Netherlands and northern Germany. In addition, Gasunie is involved in the development and operation of infrastructure for the transport of heat, hydrogen, and CO2.

 

Gasunie CCS is actively contributing to the realization of several carbon capture and storage (CCS) projects in the Netherlands, such as Porthos, Aramis, and the Delta Rhine Corridor.

 

About CCS

Carbon capture and storage (CCS) is a method to reduce CO2 emissions into the atmosphere by capturing, transporting, and storing CO2 in depleted offshore natural gas reservoirs. This process helps mitigate the impact on climate change and the environment.

 

About the CO2RE Project

Gasunie CCS has initiated a multi-year project called CO2RE, executed by DNV in Groningen. CO2RE is an R&D project aimed at assessing the kinetics of impurity interactions in CO2 streams, as well as corrosion caused by acid formation and liquid dropout. The research covers gas, dense, and liquid phases under various process conditions and with different types of impurities in varying levels.

The project will be carried out at the University of Groningen (Zernike Campus), the Gasunie office in Groningen, and the DNV Technology Centre in Groningen (Zernike).

We may schedule a second interview with you. Depending on the position, this interview can be complemented with an assessment or guest lecture.
