Postdoc-positie One Size Fits None: matching engagement to context

Beleid en wetgeving in Nederland stellen hoge eisen aan bottom-up voorzieningen voor essentiële diensten, zoals zorg en energie, waarbij burgers een actieve rol spelen in de opzet en het functioneren van een voorziening. Dit vereist dat lokale ambtenaren burgers betrekken bij het ontwerp en de uitvoering van beleid op een breed scala van onderwerpen, zoals vastgelegd in bijvoorbeeld het Klimaatakkoord, de Omgevingswet en de Wet gemeentelijke participatie. Hoewel er geen gebrek is aan benaderingen voor publieke participatie die beleidsmakers kunnen gebruiken om hun burgerbetrokkenheidsinterventies te structureren, ontbreekt het aan systematische kennis over welke aanpak het beste werkt, wanneer, waar en voor wie. Daarom tasten lokale ambtenaren dikwijls in het duister bij hun inspanningen om burgers te betrekken: zij hebben nauwelijks inzicht in wat de meest geschikte instrumenten zijn in hun lokale context – voor de specifieke gemeenschap, het specifieke probleem, op het gegeven niveau van beleidsvorming, en binnen de gegeven sociale, economische, historische en culturele omstandigheden. In deze postdoc-functie doe je onderzoek dat kan helpen deze situatie te verbeteren.

Most of what we know about this relationship comes from rodent experiments performed under tightly controlled laboratory conditions. Postdoc position in detecting cognitive strategies in EEG data

The ultimate objective of this project is to detect cognitive strategies in single-trial EEG data. In very broad terms, we will use the HMP method (https://github.com/GWeindel/hmp) to discover cognitive operations in existing data, label these operations, and then train transformer models to predict sequences of operations in unseen data. The goal of the project is to be able to track differences in strategy use between novices and experts on a task and map their learning trajectory.

Postdoctoral Researcher Urban Design and Inclusive Urban Mobility

Join an ambitious, multidisciplinary project at the crossroads of interaction and urban design, where your research can shape the vision of open and accessible cities! This position is part of the NWO-funded research project BEAT (Building Equitable Accessibility Together) , which started in January 2026.

Within the Faculty of Spatial Sciences, department of Spatial Planning we are looking for a postdoctoral researcher (0.8 – 1.0 FTE) on Inclusive mobility within BEAT NWO funded research project. Operating from the standpoint that mobility is essentially a subjective human experience, BEAT aims to investigate urban mobility barriers as they unfold in the daily activities of people. Rather than examining a specifi c mode of mobility (e.g., public transport, walking) or a single accessibility barrier, the focus of this project is the holistic experience of urban mobility in the daily lives of individuals with physical and cognitive diversities. The point of departure is “people”—their routines and travel behaviours, their daily frustrations with various mobility obstacles, and the impact of these hindrances on their personal, social, and professional lives. BEAT investigates a wide range of barriers that may be labelled as temporary or even mundane. Examples of such temporary-but-everyday barriers include construction sites and road works planned by municipalities, but also a variety of unplanned situations, such as improperly parked delivery vehicles, poorly placed planters and bikes on the sidewalk, unauthorised market stalls, and so forth. While each of these situations may be perceived as a temporary problem, collectively they form a permanent reality of how we experience our cities. These barriers signify an “informal” layer of inaccessibility superimposed on more structural or “formal” accessibility problems in the city. This informal layer is highly diverse, stems from many underlying causes and factors, and highlights a notable knowledge gap.

EngD - Design of Plastic Pyrolysis Purification Processes

As part of the Purifiy project, we are looking for a EngD candidate on the design of plastic pyrolysis purification processes.

Pyrolysis offers a promising path to valorize difficult-to-recycle plastic waste. However, harmful contaminants present in such waste streams (e.g., halogens, metals, and nitrogen compounds) can cause equipment corrosion, catalyst deactivation, and compromise product quality. We are developing and evaluating innovative technologies to remove these contaminants in-situ during pyrolysis and ex-situ from the resulting vapor and liquid pyrolysis products.

The EngD will perform desktop studies related to process design and optimization, techno-economic evaluations, and screening of purification technologies.

Postdoc Sustainable ZnAlMg-X alloy coating for green steel applications

A 3-year postdoc position is open in the Advanced Production Engineering (APE) research group at the Engineering and Technology Institute Groningen (ENTEG), Faculty of Science and Engineering. The appointment will focus on the development of sustainable ZnAlMg-X alloy coatings for green steel applications.

ZnAlMg alloys coated steel belong to the most important materials for automotive components, building components, domestic appliances and electrical goods. Besides the improved corrosion resistance, however, these coating alloys generally suffer from a reduced formability and cracking resistance as compared to GI galvanized steel. Furthermore, it is unclear at this moment how these types of coatings will perform in application to the green steel. This project is aimed investigating the impact of using green steel as a substrate and at the same time improving the performance of this type of coatings on corrosion and cracking resistance, applicability and removability for recycling.
