Interested in how digital tools can transform humanities research? CLARIAH-NL is looking for a Scientific Program Manager to support CLARIAH infrastructure—developing innovative infrastructure to explore large-scale cultural and textual data.
The CLARIAH infrastructure develops, facilitates and stimulates the use of digital resources for the Humanities. The CLARIAH infrastructure is created in a series of projects of the national roadmap for Large Scale Research Infrastructure. The projects are financed by NWO with co-funding by the CLARIAH-NL partners. Currently, there are two Large-Scale Research Infrastructure projects running with a strong CLARIAH component: SSHOC-NL and The Macroscope.

What are you going to do?
As a Scientific Program Manager (UFO profile External Collaborative Coordinator), you will coordinate user engagement across the CLARIAH research infrastructure. You will keep track of trends in Dutch humanities research and how these translate to (new) infrastructure requirements. Embedded within the CLARIAH-NL project portfolio, your work involves organizing stakeholder meetings, attending (digital) humanities events, and reaching out to potential user groups. This will enable you to provide the CLARIAH Management team with invaluable input for securing resources for new projects, substantiating how technical developments serve research needs. You will work closely with researchers, developers, and external partners to ensure that tools, data, and services effectively support scholarly research.

Key Responsibilities
- Act as a liaison between researchers (graduate and undergraduate) students and the CLARIAH infrastructure and translate researcher and student needs into actionable requirements for the development of infrastructure services and tools.
- Stimulate user engagement across the various disciplines within the humanities by actively recruiting and onboarding researchers as users of CLARIAH infrastructure.
- Contribute to the development and improvement of digital research tools and services by involving researchers directly in the design and evaluation process.
- Take part in project planning and progress monitoring, and report on how infrastructure development aligns with researcher’s needs.
- Design and facilitate workshops, stakeholder meetings, and community activities to connect researchers with CLARIAH tools and services.
- Translate user needs and research trends into funding applications and project proposals.
- Develop support strategies for legal and ethical issues related to sensitive and copyrighted data.
Who are you?
- Completed a PhD in Digital Humanities, Humanities, Information Science, or a related field.
- Demonstrable affinity with digital research methods, data, or infrastructure.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Interest in research support, coordination, and collaboration.
- A strong understanding of the current research landscape in the humanities and the infrastructural challenges it faces.
- Ability to work in an interdisciplinary and international environment.
- Experience with research projects or academic collaboration.
- Affinity with Open Science and FAIR data principles, and their relevance to the development of humanities research infrastructure.
- Excellent English skills.
What can you expect from us?
- In accordance with the collective labor agreement for Dutch universities, we offer a salary of at least € 4.728 (schaal 11) up to a maximum of € 6.433 (schaal 11.11) gross per month for a full-time employment contract.
- 232 vacation hours per year, based on a 38-hour workweek (1.0 FTE). You can also work more or fewer hours in exchange for more or fewer free hours. For example, with a 40-hour workweek, you save 96 extra free hours, and with a 36-hour workweek, you lose 96 hours.
- End-of-year bonus of 8.3% and 8% holiday allowance.

The position of the scientific manager will be located at the Faculty of Arts, University of Groningen. You will be embedded in the Centre for Media and Journalism Studies and the Centre for Digital Humanities, both known for contributing to a vibrant research environment.
